Portal is a mechanic which allows for soft reset. Using it lets the player spend all of the Helium accumulated in the current run on Perks. When the process of resetting is complete, all of the game progress is wiped, and the only things to stay are leftover Helium and Perks.

Through the Portal menu the player can also start a challenge.

The Portal unlocks every time the player completes The Dimension of Anger. Along with it, the player also gains 30 Helium for its completion.

After completing the Scientist challenge, the player will always start with 5000 science, 1 foreman, 100 food and 100 wood every Portal.

Well, you did it. You followed your instincts through this strange world, made your way through the Dimension of Anger, and obtained this portal. But why? Maybe there will be answers through this portal... Your scientists tell you they can overclock it to bring more memories and items back, but they'll need helium to cool it.

Hidden perks

Perk name Method of acquisition Required base Helium Level cap Effect
Relentlessness Complete Trimple of Doom 75 10 You've seen too many Trimps fall, time for more aggressive training. Bringing back these memories will cause your Trimps to gain a 5% chance to critically strike for 230% damage at level 1, and they will gain an additional 5% crit chance and 30% crit damage per level. Maximum of 10 levels.
Artisanistry Complete the Metal challenge 15 - "You're beginning to notice ways to make equally powerful equipment with considerably fewer resources. Bringing back these new ideas will allow you to spend 5% fewer resources than the current cost (compounds) per level on all equipment."
Carpentry Complete the Size challenge 25 - "You've built quite a few houses and you're getting pretty good at it. Bringing your expertise in construction back through the portal will allow you to house 10% more Trimps per level than the current amount (compounds)."
Resilience Complete the Trimp challenge 100 - "Use your acquired skills in Trimp strengthening to gain a 10% compounding increase to total Trimp health. Effect increased by Toughness."

Note: When applying the damage bonus from Power and Relentlessness, Power is applied first, then Relentlessness. They do not stack as an additive bonus.

Respec

After first unlocking the Portal, the button View Perks on the bottom bar unlocks. Through that button, the player can see their perks as well as respec them. It is possible to respec only once per run, with no penalties whatsoever. To get another respec after using one, the player has to use the Portal to soft reset their game, or purchase "Portal" from the Bone Trader.

If you have the perk Carpentry and attempt to respec without putting as many or more points back into it, the game will not allow you to respec if your new amount of maximum Trimps falls into one of these criteria:

  • is less than

[Fighting group size] * 2.4

  • is less than

[Number of Trimps employed] * 2

If you want to respec into a lesser amount of Carpentry, consider firing some workers first. Farmers/Lumberjacks/Miners are the best candidates to lose their jobs, because they are the cheapest to move around due to their low, unchanging hiring cost.
