There are 6 jobs in total in Trimps. Trimps can be freely assigned to work on various jobs by the player. It's possible to fire Trimps from any job at any given time, however, the player doesn't get a refund of resources spent on assigning to the job.
The amount of Trimps that can be employed at any given time is exactly half of your maximum Trimps, rounded up.
Jobs
Farmers
After trapping the first Trimp ever, the player unlocks the ability to assign him (and more Trimps to come) to work as a farmer. Farmers produce food over time. Each farmer produces the same amount of food.
Lumberjacks
Along with farmers the player unlocks lumberjacks. They produce wood over time. Each lumberjack produces the same amount of wood.
Miners
A third into Zone 1 the player unlocks miners. They produce metal over time. Each miner produces the same amount of metal.
Scientists
10 cells after unlocking miners, the player gets to assign scientists. Scientists generate science over time. Each scientist produces the same amount of science. Trimps produce science at a much slower rate than other resources.
Trainers
At Zone 3 the player unlocks the ability to assign trainers. Trainers increase the total block gained by 25% additively (however, that percentage rises with the TrainTacular upgrade.
Explorers
At Zone 15, explorers are unlocked. Each explorer will generate a set amount of map fragments per second.
