Heirlooms are special items which drop whenever a Void map is completed. Each Void map gives exactly one Heirloom. As Void maps only drop after the player has used the Portal a minimum of 5 times, the same rule applies to Heirlooms.

Each Heirloom will have a set of modifiers which affect certain multipliers, such as health or gathering speed. A new resource called Nullifium is used to modify them.

The UI

The Heirlooms menu can be accessed by clicking the button located below the Maps button.

Heirlooms

Equipped Inventory

The inventory of equipped Heirlooms can be found in the top left corner. Heirlooms can be equipped by clicking on them from either the Carried or the Temporary inventory and then pressing Equip or Swap, depending on whether there's already an Heirloom equipped in the corresponding slot. Heirlooms can be swapped in and out of the equipped inventory (or any inventory) at will, at any time, with no penalties.

Equipped Heirlooms carry on through Portals.

There are currently two types of Heirlooms: Shield and Staff. The player can only equip 1 Heirloom of each type, meaning only 2 Heirlooms can be active at once.

The Heirloom's modifiers will be applied as soon as it's equipped.

Carry Inventory

Under the equipped inventory, there's a menu where the player can store Heirlooms. Any Heirlooms stored in this area will carry on through Portals, and will not be reset. This can be used as means of storing certain Heirlooms the player doesn't want to lose.

Heirlooms can be put here by clicking on them, then pressing Carry.

This inventory starts with just one available slot. By pressing the "add slot" button the player can purchase more slots permanently at the cost of some Nullifium. The player can purchase a maximum of 9 slots (for 10 total slots). The cost to purchase the second slot is 40, then 80, 120, 200, 600, 1200, 3200, 8000, 20000. Each of these costs represents each Heirloom rarity's worth times eight.

Temporary Inventory

In bottom left, there's a menu for all left over Heirlooms. This is the menu where newly dropped Heirlooms from completion of Void maps land.

Heirlooms stored in this inventory will be lost upon using the Portal, and the player will receive their value's worth in Nullifium. Heirlooms stored here can also be manually recycled at any point by clicking on them, then pressing Recycle - this action will also award the Heirloom's value worth in Nullifium. All Heirlooms stored here can also be recycled at once by clicking the Recycle All button.

Upgrade menu

In top right, there's a menu which will show the properties of the currently selected Heirloom.

Clicking the Heirloom's name will allow the player to change it. By default, the names are a combination of rarity + type, for example "Common Shield". This action doesn't cost anything and has no penalty attached, meaning the names can be changed at will.

Clicking a modifier will cause a window to pop up. On the left side of this window, the player can replace the selected modifier with the one selected through the drop-down list at the cost of the displayed amount of Nullifium. On the right side, the selected modifier can be upgraded to a higher multiplier, also at the cost of some Nullifium.

Types, Modifiers and Rarity

There are two types of Heirlooms - Shield and Staff. Each type has a different set of modifiers they can contain.

Each Heirloom is assigned a random rarity which is permanent and can't be changed.

Rarity chances

The chances for each rarity depend on the current zone a Void map was completed at. Note that these ratios do not account for the Fluffy Heirloom drop bonus.

Modifier slots per rarity

Depending on the rarity, each heirloom has a maximum modifier capacity.

Common Uncommon Rare Epic Legendary Magnificent Ethereal Magmatic Plagued

Modifiers

When an Heirloom is created, the game will randomly assign one of each corresponding modifiers for each modifier slot, or it can sometimes not assign one and leave the slot empty (1/12 chance for a Staff, 1/11 chance for a Shield).

Each modifier, depending on the rarity has a minimum multiplier, maximum multiplier and a step value. For each modifier, the game will pick its multiplier randomly between minimum and maximum, in increments of the step value. Upgrading a modifier also increases its multiplier by the step value.

Modifiers which appear on an Heirloom will initially always be sorted alphabetically. Replacing modifiers will not sort them, meaning that by doing so different modifiers can be made to appear in different places.

Nullifium costs

Each rarity is worth a base amount of Nullifium. This is the amount the player will be awarded by recycling an unupgraded Heirloom of the specified rarity.

Common Uncommon Rare Epic Legendary Magnificent Ethereal Magmatic Plagued
5 10 15 25 75 150 400 1000 2500

The cost to upgrade a single modifier by one step is equal to that Heirloom's worth (1x).

Heirlooms can be upgraded past their maximum value, infinitely[1]. If the current multiplier of a modifier has been upgraded once past its maximum, each next upgrade will have a recurringly increased cost by the factors below.

Common Uncommon Rare Epic Legendary Magnificent Ethereal Magmatic Plagued
2 1.5 1.25 1.19 1.15 1.12 1.1 1.06 1.04

For example, buying the last step for a Common Heirloom will cost 5 Nullifium; after that, upgrading it further will cost 10, 20, 40 etc.

Final cost of upgrades past maximum is rounded down at the very end of calculation.

The cost of adding a modifier to an empty slot is equal to two times of that Heirloom's worth (2x).

The cost of replacing a modifier with a different one is equal to six times of that Heirloom's worth (6x).

Nullifium refunds

Upgrading modifiers will increase the recycling worth of an Heirloom. When recycling an Heirloom, 100% of Nullifium spent on each upgrade is refunded with no loss. However, replacing a modifier does not refund any Nullifium spent on the modifier that's being replaced. Furthermore, replacing a modifier that was upgraded will make the Heirloom lose value, as the Nullifium spent on upgrading the replaced modifier will now be impossible to retrieve.

The only way to retrieve spent Nullifium on an Heirloom is to recycle it whole, with the upgraded modifiers attached to it.

It's not required to hold back spending Nullifium on Heirlooms until the highest rarity Heirloom is found, because Nullifium spent upgrading modifiers on an Heirloom can always be retrieved later by recycling it if it's no longer needed, as long as the modifiers had not been replaced before recycling.

To clarify:

  • Nullifium spent on adding new mods is lost.
  • Nullifium spent on replacing mods is lost and any nullifium spent upgrading the mod that is being replaced is lost.
  • Nullifium spent on upgrading mods is refundable when you recycle the entire heirloom.
  • Nullifium spent on upgrading mods that you have added yourself is also refundable.
  • Nullifium spent on upgrading mods that you replaced another mod with is refundable.

Plagued Heirlooms

A new type of Heirloom called Plagued Heirlooms can be found only at Zones 500+. This is the first type of Heirloom that has an animation (rotating).

Unlike the other Heirlooms, existing modifiers on these Heirlooms cannot be replaced. Adding a modifier to an Empty slot will still work though.

There is one new modifier (Plaguebringer) exclusive to Plagued Shields and one new modifier (Fluffy EXP) exclusive to Plagued Staffs.

Plaguebringer allows a percentage of all non-lethal damage and Nature stacks you afflict on your current enemy to be copied onto the next enemy. Plaguebringer damage cannot bring an enemy below 5% health, but nature stacks will continue to accumulate. This effect has a min/max percentage of 1%/15% with a step of 0.5%, and is capped at 75%. Fluffy EXP has a min/max percentage of 25%/50% with a step of 1%, and has no cap.

Unlike the other Heirlooms, Crit Chance is capped at 100% and Void Map Drop Chance is capped at 80%.

Trivia

  • In patch V4.8, a new tier of Heirlooms is introduced (Plagued) which is obtained on Zones 500+. Two new modifiers are exclusive to this type. To accommodate this, the z400+ rarity breakpoint was changed to z400-z499, and a new rarity breakpoint z500+ was added.
  • In patch V4.5, the z300+ rarity breakpoint was changed to z300-z399, and a new rarity breakpoint z400+ was added.
  • In patch V4.1, the Magmatic rarity was added, and the number of carried slots was increased by 1. Also, prior to V4.1, it was impossible to retrieve any Nullifium spent on an Heirloom. Recycling Heirlooms would not give back any Nullifium spent on upgrades. This works retroactively - any Heirlooms that were found and upgraded prior to V4.1 can now be recycled for full value with all the upgrades.
  • In patch V3.3, the z181+ rarity breakpoint was changed to z181-z200, and a new rarity breakpoint z201+ was added.
